Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has published the official notification for TNPSC Group 2, 2A Recruitment 2026 thru Notification No. 07/2026 dated 11 August 2026. The recruitment is being held for 821 posts under Combined Civil Services Examination –II which includes 41 Group II Services posts and 780 Group IIA Services posts. Online application of eligible candidates will be accepted from the date of notification up to 9 September 2026 to 11:59 PM. The common preliminary examination will be held on 01 November 2026. The official notification gives district-wise allocations for several Assistant and Senior Revenue Inspector posts. Eligibility Criteria for TNPSC Group 2, 2A Recruitment 2026

Educational Qualification

The educational qualification differs according to the post. Most posts require a degree from a university recognised by the University Grants Commission, while certain Group II posts require specific degrees or technical qualifications.

The ₹100 preliminary examination fee is payable while submitting the online application unless the candidate claims fee exemption. The ₹150 main examination fee is payable later by eligible candidates shortlisted for the Main Examination. Candidates shortlisted for both Group II and Group IIA who have not claimed exemption must pay ₹300.

The One Time Registration fee is ₹150 and the registration remains valid for five years.

Payment Mode

Candidates can pay the examination fee online through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card or UPI. Demand Draft, Postal Order or other offline payment methods will not be accepted.

Selection Process

The TNPSC Group 2 and Group 2A recruitment consists of the following stages:

The Preliminary Examination is only a screening test and its marks are not counted for final ranking. Candidates are shortlisted for the Main Examination based on the prescribed qualifying criteria. Approximately 10 times the number of vacancies are admitted to the Main Examination, subject to reservation and tie-at-cut-off provisions.

Preliminary Examination Pattern

The common preliminary examination consists of 200 questions for 300 marks and is conducted for both Group II and Group IIA Services.

Paper I is qualifying in nature. Paper II marks are used for ranking and final selection. The examination scheme in the notification specifies General Studies and General Intelligence and Reasoning under Paper II.

Final Ranking

Final ranking is prepared based on the marks obtained in Paper II of the Main Examination. If candidates obtain equal marks, higher educational qualification receives preference. If marks and qualification are also equal, the older candidate is placed higher, and if age is also equal, the candidate with the earlier application number is placed higher.

Candidates selected for Group II posts will not subsequently be considered for Group IIA posts under the same notification.

Candidates applying for Jailor posts must satisfy specific physical standards.

For Jailor (Men), the minimum height is 165 cm for candidates other than SC/SC(A)/ST and 160 cm for SC/SC(A)/ST candidates. Specific chest measurements are also prescribed. For Jailor (Special Prison for Women), the minimum height is 156 cm for other communities and 150 cm for SC/SC(A)/ST candidates.
